Welcome to my page. I am a counsellor (member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors) and a tutor. It was not until I was in my late forties that I returned to education, having left school at the first opportunity many years ago. After graduating with a Bachelor of Counselling, and working as an agency counsellor, I now have a private practice and teach adult students who are in their first and second years of counsellor training. My current teaching papers centre around human development, and counselling approaches. My love of learning, and a deep curiosity of human nature, underpin both my studies and my work.
While I have used computers for a significant part of my life (from the age of DOS), the speed of change has outstripped my capacity to keep up, partly because my focus has been elsewhere. The current paper is going to stretch my ability to expand into new areas of knowledge. Writing blogs and using forums as a means of learning is definitely unfamiliar territory.
At this point I am two papers short of my Master of Education, and hopefully, by the end of this course I’ll be able to halve that. My intentions for this current paper will centre around the use of technology in an environment where students need to be very present (emotionally, psychologically and physically), and where there is a mix of theoretical and experiential learning.
This blog will, I hope, help support my own learning as I challenge myself, and perhaps offer a means of support from some of you who are journeying with me. There is so much experience out there in our “classroom”, it feels rather daunting!
